Imax (in the context of current or electrical engineering) refers to the maximum current that a component, device or cable can carry permanently or briefly without damage or overheating. The value is often specified in amperes (A) and is an important parameter for the design and safety of electrical systems, e.g. for fuses, cables or semiconductor components.
