Power dissipation

Power dissipation in connection with electricity refers to the energy that is lost unused in an electrical system - for example in cables, transformers or electronic components - in the form of heat or other unusable forms of energy. These losses are mainly caused by electrical resistance (Joule heat) or other physical effects such as eddy currents or hysteresis. Power dissipation reduces the efficiency of a system and leads to higher operating costs.
